"In God We Trust" Returns to Gym Wall
at Owen Elementary School, The Colony TX

Owen Elementary School, The Colony TX is putting "In God We Trust" back on the gymnasium wall after the U.S. motto was painted over because an atheist parent made a stink.

Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) spokesman Dean Tackett says a parent complained about displaying the word "God" in school, so the phrase was painted over. But Tackett said Tuesday, in response to complaints from other Owens Elementary School parents about the hasty removal, "In God We Trust" will be re-painted on the wall. KTVT television reports some Owen Elementary School parents wrote the words "In God We Trust" on their children's T-shirts and backpacks, then sent their students to school. Good for them.

The Colony Texas is a fairly conservative, Christian, family-oriented, residential community of around 40,000 so it is very out of character for a parent in The Colony TX to pull something like this.

Two thoughts:

Since the Texas Education Code allows public schools to display the U.S. national motto "In God We Trust" what motivated the Lewisville Independent School District to succumb to the whining of a parent and why would it take a group of other parents to get it set right?

What would possess a person to use their child's elementary school as a platform for media attention and controversy? Elementary age kids want to fit in with friends so how is this self centered parent's action going to affect the child? Only time will tell.
