Newsweek Ranks 2 McKinney High Schools Among Americas Best
McKinney High School and McKinney North High School in McKinney Independent School District MISD Collin County TX were recognized in the top five percent when Newsweek magazine released its 2006 annual ranking of America’s 1300 Best High Schools, based on the 2006 Advanced Placement AP exam data. Each American high school received an index score, determined by dividing the number of AP exams administered by the number of graduating high school seniors.
Another Newsweek determining factor is the Excellence and Equity percentage which is the percentage of graduating high school seniors who scored at least a 3 on one or more exams during their high school years.
The Newsweek article is titled: The Top of the Class, The complete list of the 1,300 top U.S. schools.
These Newsweek ranked 1300 high schools represent the TOP 5 Percent in the Nation. Just being on the list is an A+ for any high school.
When Newsweek Magazine published the rankings the McKinney Independent School District found and reported an error to the magazine. Newsweek mixed up data between McKinney High School and McKinney North High School. Two high schools almost identically named was the culprit.
After Newsweek corrected the data from MISD and other public Independent school districts, Newsweek republished it's 2006 annual ranking of Americas Best High Schools on the Newsweek Website, increasing the 1300 high schools to 1351.
There were 123 Texas Public High Schools on the revised Newsweek ranking list of 1351 high schools, many located in the DFW Metroplex.

McKinney High School, McKinney Independent School District, located at 1400 Wilson Creek Parkway in McKinney, TX 75069 is ranked number 196 in the nation by the 2006 Newsweek rating of all public schools in the nation. 196th is a corrected Newsweek website ranking as after incorrectly being omitted in the published Newsweek hard copy magazine in May 2007.
McKinney North High School Ranked Number 245 In The Nation By Newsweek Magazine Website.
McKinney North High School, McKinney Independent School District, located at 2550 Wilmeth Road in McKinney, TX 75071 is ranked number 245 in the nation by the 2006 Newsweek rating of all public schools in the nation. 245th is a corrected Newsweek website ranking as after incorrectly mixed data from both MHS and MNHS high schools was published in the Newsweek in May 2007.
Think about how many high schools there are in the nation. The Newsweek top high school ranking was highlighting the top 5 percent. People can down play the importance of Newsweek's annual rating of high schools but the world is full of negative people.
