The Lewisville Learning Center has served LISD residents since 1988. Our Center opened its doors to our new facility in October, 2001. The award-winning innovating design of the Center is giving educators a powerful new educational tool to help the community’s most at-risk students. Perhaps the most appealing features of the Center are the practical and functional rooms. The cafeteria, which includes a stage, is filled with sunlight that beams through a series of oversized windows, creating a spacious, comfortable environment. Key locations for academic enrichment include a reading room with a library as well as lab classrooms complete with necessary features to perform experiments and projects in all science disciplines. Classrooms containing computers, group activity areas and individual study stations supplement the Center’s learning area. The Learning Center is a true testament that public education facilities can be both functional and attractive community structures.
The Center has grown from a handful of students served in the early years to approximately 300 students served at a time. The Center has three separate divisions of students.
DAEP Division (110 students) serves over 700 disciplinary students a year, while our high school Accelerated Division (150 students) serves approximately 400-500 students for academic acceleration each year. In addition, our new Middle School accelerated program serves around 60-70 over-aged-off-grade level students each year. Thirdly, our Special Education Division ( 25 students ) serves approximately 25-35 all-grade level elementary, middle, and high school special needs students in our “therapeutic-type ”setting. All of these students have an individual education plan (IEP) prescribing their individual needs. Additionally, this Center serves approximately 30 SAPP (Student Age Parenting Program) students at a time. All the high schools and some middle school campuses send students to this program. This Center is the district’s only campus offering formal Parenting Education classes.
Choosing A School For Your Child
Relocating home buying parents have a growing array of options in choosing their children's school, though the extent of the public school options in Texas varies by Independent School District (ISD). Use our Choosing A School Interview Style educational resource guide to simplify the process and assist you in this important decision. Choosing A School For Your Child offers step-by-step advice on how to choose among the ISD's and elementary, middle and high schools available to your child. It identifies important factors parents need to consider before making a real estate decision. As you and your child visit different schools, you may want to print and take along the questions in each section of our article.
Private and Christian Schools
There are many private and Christian school options in the Dallas Fort Worth DFW Metroplex area but none that we know of in The Colony above Kindergarten. Parents desiring private or Christian school education for their children need to evaluate the school options in the communities surrounding The Colony Texas and inline with their daily commute. If you locate a good private or Christian school that is not listed on our Area Private Schools Guide or Area Christian Schools Guide please send us an e-mail for future relocating parents.
Texas Homeschooling Options
Since the mid 1990's there is a growing popularity in parents homeschooling their children in Texas. Home School support groups, many based within The Colony TX and surrounding area churches, provide parents with the resources to successfully home school their children. Mark Hitz commentary Texas Homeschooling page provides an overview of Texas homeschooling for parents considering this educational option.
Special Educational Needs
Parents needing specialized education for their children should always call the Lewisville Independent School District rather than relying on website information. ISD Websites often lack information on their special education, remedial, gifted, accelerated, physically challenged, and other programs, resources and learning centers.
